Présentation
The Marine Ecology and Biology programme is part of the Master's degree in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution. It trains students for the following professions: Ecological engineer, Research engineer, Project manager.
It also offers advanced training for doctoral studies, targeting careers in research or teaching and research.
Sectors recruiting graduates:
- Design offices,
- Local authorities,
- NGOs working in the field of environmental knowledge and protection,
- Nature conservation organisations,
- Public research laboratories (universities, CNRS, INRA, IRD, CIRAD, IFREMER).
Specialisation and location:
- Specialisation in the field of:
- Biological oceanography,
- Coastal and marine ecosystem management, depending on the chosen focus (research or professional).
- Location: “Cité Scientifique” for the first year and Marine Station Department in Wimereux for the second year.
Teaching approach:
- Complementarity between knowledge of ecosystem functioning and measurement and analysis tools.
- Balance between theoretical and practical teaching.
End-of-study internship:
The internship provides students with pre-professional training in the following areas:
- Oceanography (national and international research laboratories)

Knowledge and skills blocks
The master's programme is organised into different knowledge and skills blocks (BCC):
BCC - Acquire the general knowledge necessary to understand past and present ecosystems, both degraded and natural
BCC – Conduct an environmental assessment of the current and past situation and/or a research protocol
BCC - Implement a current or past environmental study and/or scientific project, either individually or collectively, and build your professional project by communicating with tools adapted to different audiences

Acquisition of essential practical and technical skills: GIS tools, digital tools.
Course backed by a renowned laboratory in the fields of oceanography and geosciences.
Numerous practical projects in the form of workshops to acquire essential skills for professional integration at BAC+5 level.
Organisation
In the first year, many common teachings with the courses in English EvoBio and Paleo
The second year is dedicated to specialisation in the field of oceanography and coastal and maritime space management, with an academic semester 3 and a semester 4 dedicated to a professional internship.
International mobility
The Master's in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution offers opportunities for international mobility:
- Possibility of an internship abroad (1st and 2nd year),
- Possibility of a semester abroad in S2 or S3,
- Double degree with the International Master's in Coastal and Marine Biology and Ecology from the University of Salento (Italy).

The Marine Ecosystem Functioning and Management programme allows students to pursue doctoral studies in the following fields:
- Oceanography,

- Marine ecology, in France or abroad.
